Bleeding Heart Tetra

I love my Bleeding Heart Tetras. I have a small school of 6 adults, they are healthy, active, shy fish. When eating they tend to dart up from plant cover to snag a morsel of food and then quickly dart back to hide under cover. This darting and schooling feeding pattern is actually not unlike their near-relatives, the largest of the tetra family, the Piranha. This is very entertaining. The Bleeding Heart Tetra is a beautiful, peaceful, fish and is an excellent fish to add to an angel tank. They love the “south american biotope”, soft acidic water, with Anubias, Java Fern, Amazon swords, and wood. With my very-high pH tap water, it’s important to do small, regular water changes to avoid pH shocks to my BHTs and other amazon-basin fish who prefer relatively acidic “black water”. W
