Definition: Abdominal dropsy is a disorder characterized by edema (excess fluid) in the abdomen, which causes abdominal swelling and marked protruding of the scales. A variety of diseases can be the underlying cause, including bacterial infection, viral infection, as well as nutritional deficiencies.
