Sometimes increasing aeration in the aquarium is neccessary to maintain a healthy environment for your fish. These products will help you provide additional aeration for your aquarium.
Power Head
A power head is a great tool to increase to aquarium aeration. Direct the flow in areas of the tank where water movement is slow to eliminate dead spots, or simply increase the overall movement of water. Either way, if you want to increase aeration in your aquarium, you can't go wrong with a power head.
Spray Bar
Canister filters come equipped with a spray bar. If you haven't installed yours, or it is clogged or slow running, it's time to get a new one. A properly fitted spray bar can greatly improve the rate of gas exchange in your aquarium.
Air Stones
Air stones or diffusers are another option to increase aeration in the aquarium. The bubbles move the surface of the water, thus increasing the exchange of gasses. Smaller bubbles are generally more effective for increasing aeration. Air stones can, and will, clog over time. So replace them regularly for optimum performance. My perfonal preferense is for wooden airstones, as I've found them to perform well over the long term.
Bubble Disk or Curtain
Bubble disks or curtains are a popular means to provide additional aeration, while adding aesthetic appeal. A variety of products are available, from bubble wants, to disks. Some are even equipped with lighting to further add to the ambiance. Keep in mind that while some fish will love the bubbles, others may find them stressful. Observe your fish closely after adding a bubble disk or curtain.
