Do It Yourself Fish Food Shaker

By , About.com Guide

Ever wished you could dispense granular or flake foods without putting your fingers in the container? If so, this tip is just the thing for you.

The next time you visit a department store, pick up a pair of inexpensive plastic salt and pepper shakers - the kind with a snap lid. The shaker will allow you to easily shake the food into the tank, after which it may be tightly sealed to preserve the freshness, a real plus during the humid times of the year.

Furthermore, you won't risk accidentally dumping too much food in the tank because you tried to shake the flakes out of the wide open container. Larger foods can be dispensed by crushing them before placing in the dispenser, or by enlarging the holes with an ice pick (use extreme caution if you choose to do that).
