Public aquariums are a great place to go for vacation, or for an educational outing. Here's where to find public aquariums and exhibits located in Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Tennessee (East South Central USA). 1. Alabama - Estuarium
Alabama's Estuarium, located 35 miles from Mobile, offers interactive exhibits about Mobile Bay, the fourth largest estuary system in the United States.Geared toward education, the Estuarium offers a variety of educational opportunities, including graduate level courses, and down-loadable curricula for K-12 teachers who are bringing students to the Estuarium.

2. Kentucky - Newport Aquarium
The website features information about travel, rates, and area activities. Also available are free down-loadable coloring and activity sheets (great for a rainy day activity, even if you don't visit the aquarium). The aquarium is open year round, and tickets are available online.

3. Mississippi - No Public Aquariums

Once hailed as the largest aquarium in the world, the Tennessee Aquarium is second only to the Atlanta Aquarium. Located in Chattanooga, the aquarium offers field trips, tours, sleepovers, and hosts an IMAX theater.
The Tennessee Aquarium provides educational programs as well, including teacher workshops, programs for homeschooling, as well as Scouting programs. Only closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas. tickets are available online.
