Books are invaluable to all fish owners, from beginner to advanced. Here are my top choices for books about Discus.
Discus are challenging fish to care for. This little book is a must for any new Discus owner to read. It covers the proper habitat for Discus, filtration and water parameter needs, breeding how-to, and disease diagnosis and treatment. Although there are not a lot of Discus photos, you can't buy a better reference book for several times the price.
Covers all the important basics to successfully set up a Discus aquarium, as well as feed and breed them. Covers virtually everything, however information on disease diagnosis and treatment scant. Never the less, it's a good book for the price.
This is the best book available on breeding Discus. The author has breed Discus professionally for years, and shares his knowledge about keeping and breeding Discus in an easy to understand way. The book is well worth the sticker price, and more.
Although this can't compare to more detailed breeding texts, it is a good book for beginners.
This is an excellent reference for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases in Discus as well as other cichlids. If you have Discus or other South American Cichlids, this book is a must have.
Written by experienced discus breeder, Bernd Degen. Another book that is geared for the beginner, it does a good job of covering the basics.
Written by Jack Wattley, who is recognized as the top expert in Discus. This book contains lots of excellent photos of a wide range of Discus. A visually stunnding book.
A newer release from Bowtie Press, this volume covers a number of cichlids in addition to Discus. Included is basic care, maintenance, breeding instructions, and many color photographs
If you are looking for an inexpensive beginner book, this one from TFH will do quite nicely. Covers all the basics in an easy to read presentation.
An interesting book authored by Discus expert, Jack Wattley. He includes views from over a dozen experts. Also included are a wealth of stunning Discus photos.
