Does your mother have an aquarium? If so, consider one of these gifts for Mother's Day, her birthday, Christmas, or anytime you'd like to put a smile on Mom's face.
If your mother has always wanted an aquarium, rally the family to get her everything she'll need, and set the tank up for her. Include a gift certificate for the fish, plants, and other items she might want to add. You'll find a checklist of things you should get under the Suggested Reading at the bottom of the page.
Corner Aquarium
This nifty little aquarium fits in almost any corner. Your mother can keep a betta or other small fish right in her kitchen, sewing room, or even on her desk. Fitted with a light in the hood and integrated filtration, all you need to add are the decorations and fish.
Driftwood
If your mother doesn't have driftwood in her aquarium, consider getting her one as a centerpiece for her tank. Choose from unadorned natural driftwood, or pieces combined with artificial plants. Your mother will love how attractive it makes her aquarium, and the fish will enjoy having a place to hide behind, or lounge upon.
Fish Bowl Quilt Pattern
If your mother is a quilter, she will love this fish bowl quilt pattern. Get her the fabric - most fabric shops carry a number of fish patterns. Ebay is also a great place to find fish fabrics for quilts. Use the link I've provided to download and print the free pattern. If your mother has questions, send her to the Quilting Guide.
Lime Off
Made especially for aquariums, this product will take the white buildup off the hood and glass, all for a cost of less than five dollars. While you are at it, get Mom a new bucket just for the aquarium and fill it with all the cleaning supplies she needs, then top it with a colorful bow. Include a couple of hand towels for cleaning up water spills, and she'll have a kit she can really put to good use. You'll find my top picks in cleaning supplies at the bottom of this article.
Timer
Take one task off Moms list by giving her a timer for the aquarium lights. You don't need an expensive specialty timer. All you need is one that will turn the light on and off once each day. Most department stores carry them for under ten dollars. After Mom opens her gift, tell her to put her feet up and relax while you plug it in and set it up for her.
