When considering what is going to go in the mid-ground section and where, the types of plants come into play. Swords make a nice focal point as a standalone, Cryptocornes and Anubias for the most part need less light and so can be planted under taller background plants, and plants like narrow leaf Saggitaria can be added for grouping effect. .
The main thing again is to have a plan, preferably written, so you will not have to change things later. You would try to plant plants of varying heights to give your aquascape or planted aquarium a look of depth. This will also help conceal taller plants that have unsightly lower leaves due to not getting enough light.
Add Special Effect
Having some open areas as well as groupings and stand-alones generally works best. Driftwood and rocks in most cases go in this section. Anubias and mosses and ferns can be attached to rocks or driftwood for a special effect.
That's it for this week. Happy planting! ~ Don Matakis
