Those who lack the space for a traditional tank argue that flat tanks offer them a means to keep fish. The manufacturer states that they are easy to set up and maintain, even for a novice.
Fish require room to move in all directions, and would be hampered by the lack of depth in the wall tank.
It is questionable whether the narrow water surface offers sufficient space for adequate oxygen exchange. Further, the total water volume is so small that the tank requires more frequent maintenance than larger tanks.
Lastly, up-front costs are generally significantly more than a traditional aquarium.
Where It Stands
Like many fads, this item is not likely to become popular enough to replace more traditional tanks. Mainstream pet shops rarely if ever carry them, and mail order of such a heavy breakable item is not well received by potential customers.
