Using Salt in Aquariums

Salt is often recommended for treating disease in freshwater aquariums. Some say it's a cure-all for many ailments, while others say it's highly dangerous. So, which is correct?

The truth of the matter is that salt can be beneficial in some situations, but is not safe for live plants or certain species of fish. Before using salt, you should learn what salt can and cannot do for your aquarium.
