This afternoon a reader sent me a note about her Black Banded Leporinus. She said, "Ours is 21 years old! He won't die! He survived jumping out of his tank and laying under the sofa in dust! I don't know what to do with him!" I know I shouldn't have chuckled, but I did. Her story brought back memories of my sister who bought a tiny one, then called me to tell me about this cute little "bumble bee fish" that she'd gotten for our father. I rolled my eyes because I'd carefully coached her before she went shopping, yet she still bought a fish that would outgrow the tank. Sure enough, it wasn't all that much later that my sister called me again to ask how to get rid of the foot long monstrosity that now occupied Dad's tank. I bit my tongue and didn't say I told you so, but it was tempting. A word to the wise, always do your homework, or you might be in for an unwelcome surprise.
Meanwhile, if you have some advice for Deborah who has a 21 year old Black-Banded Leporinus that she doesn't know what to do with, please share your experiences. I'm sure she'd appreciate any suggestions.
