A reader recently wrote and wondered what he should do when he's away for a few days - leave the lights on or off? I told him to get an inexpensive timer, and in lieu of that, leave the lights on. However, I later realized I probably should have mentioned the recommended aquarium photo-period. Although the length of time an aquarium is lit isn't generally a huge issue, your fish will appreciate a somewhat regular photo-period.
