Water Changes

Thursday January 1, 2009
Is it wise to change water more than once a week? Visit the forum and post your thoughts in response this forum member’s water changing questions.

"What would be wrong with doing multiple water changes a week in a well established tank? Why should I only do one water change a week when in a natural environment most fish have all the water surrounding them changed in a matter of minutes,

I know a lot of people that have fry and change a hundred percent of the water in their tanks every day. Then they move them from the fry tanks that have one hundred percent of the water changed to tanks that ten percent once a week and are not stressed at all.

But I hear people say if you take a fish that was acclimated to once a week water changes and start doing multiple changes it will stress them. Why is that so? Ultimately why shouldn't I do more changes in a week? I realize this probably has a simple answer and the question lacks clarity at some points."
