Mystery Fry

Friday November 7, 2008
Here is an interesting mystery for you. When are Platy fry not Platy fry? Visit the forum for the answer to the mystery.

"OK, let me first say, I have raised guppy and platy fry before..... Now here's my question, I have a breeder tank set up with guppy and platy who are ready to give birth (or might have already), but today during the water change these "things" have appeared. They do not look like the fry I remember seeing in my old tank, but I'm not saying their not. These "things" look like they might be in a egg case. They are round, jelly like, with black dots and they wiggle like an amoeba. LOL, crazy?

I don't know if quitting smoking has gone to my brain, but that's what they look like under a magnifying glass. I remember my other fry resembling blobs with two little black eyes. I have some in my tank like that, but these ones I sucked up during the water change look different. Am I just being over paranoid? I do have a rainbow shark in the tank (long story) but they are egg layers, and there is only one in there soooooooooo.... For now I am just dumping the water back into the tank. I will do a water change being careful not to suck up the little darlings. I am telling you, I swear I am not crazy UGGGGGGG!"
