Flush Fish?

By , About.com GuideFebruary 9, 2008

Flushing fish is a highly debated subject. Do fish suffer if flushed? Is it a humane way to dispose of unwanted fish? What about sick fish, or fish that have already passed on to that big tank in the sky? What do you think?

(1) fishkeeper says:

Human feces contains more harmful bacteria in it than a dead fish and in developed countries sewage water almost always goes through proper treatment before the water is dumped. If sewage is being dumped without going through a treatment facility, a couple dead fish are going to be the least of your concerns.

That said, I couldn’t bring myself to flush any of my fish when they died. I buried the poor things :(
