Overfed Betta

Monday June 12, 2006
Overfeeding is a common problem. Can you offer this concerned Betta owner your advice?

"Help, my 7 year old over fed my Betta, How can I keep it alive? I changed the filter hoping to pull more food out of the water and help wit toxin overload, Help! His stomach is HUGE!"

If the stomach of your Betta is really big, then the problem is not overfeeding. This happens when the fish get infected by a virus which causes accumulation of water within the fish. You should change the water and keep clean the aquarium but besides that there’s not to much to do…

Over feeding is different from over eating. If your fish’s stomach is bloated from having eaten a lot, that should fix itself soon! It’s when the TANK gets over fed, and the water subsequently gets fouled, that problems start. The best way to deal with it is to clean the filter and do a partial water change.
